Thanksgiving Fun

My sister, Miriam, is flying out from Dallas to visit me for the Thanksgiving weekend. I'm very excited. We're going to have so much fun! I've been working a lot lately, so it will be nice to take a break and vacation with sis. Since she's never been to California, therefore it will be my duty to show her around LA and the surrounding area. :)

Random photos for the day

Poor Leo. Trapped in the freezer section at my local grocer, Ralph's, right next to the frozen pizza. I wanted to help him out, but then I wouldn't have gotten this great photo!

Saw this on my walk to Target. So how does this work? Do you think it goes, Apt 7288, 7288 1/4, 7288 2/4, and 7288 3/4? Or how about 7288, 7288 1/4, 7288 1/2, and 7288 3/4? Or maybe 1/4 and 2/4 are a combined unit, and the 3/4 is a very tiny one. It's all so very confusing. I never was very good at math.

House of Blues Monday Night

Last night I walked down to the House of Blues on Sunset to see a Liz Phair show. I've never seen her live and I've always wondered what her performances were like. I've been on the fence with her because I like some of her lyrics and she can look pretty sexy at times, but I've never really thought she had a great voice. So I wanted to see her live to see if she is 'legit'.

The House of Blues is about a 20 minute walk from my house which is nice because parking is really hard to find or expensive near the venue. I'd never been to the club before and was pleasantly surprised at how there was plenty of room, but still had a small club feeling. Reminded me of the 930 club back in DC. A girl from Australia that I had never heard opened for Liz. Her name was Missy Higgins. She was actually quite good. I thought she had a very friendly stage presence. She mostly played the keyboard and sang the songs she wrote.

Liz Phair was on next. The crowd loved her. I was excited to see her finally live and so close. The stage was right in front of me. But she was disappointing. There was more energy from the audience than from the stage. Most of her songs were drowned out by her backup singers. I've determined that Liz Phair is a gimmick. And I fell for it for a long time. I'll just blame it on being a guy. I was duped. I stayed for about half her set and then left. I just wasn't excited about her performance. But I'm glad I went. I enjoyed the venue and discovered a new talented artist in Missy Higgins.

Welcome to Los Angeles

My new upstairs neighbor (I live on the first floor of a two story duplex), Heidi, dropped by yesterday to welcome me to the neighborhood and gave me these flowers. The kindness of that gesture made my day. :)

Living in Hollywood!

This Stupid Blog has been lacking the last couple of weeks because I've been very busy with work and with moving. I've relocated to Los Angeles. I now live in West Hollywood. I love my new place. It's a cute little duplex, of which I have the bottom floor. The upstairs neighbor is really into plants, so there's an entire garden in my front 'yard' (it's all concrete, so the garden is all potted plants and such). While I loved my time at Huntington Beach, I think that LA is more for me. I'm in a quiet neighborhood and centrally located. Runyon Canyon is just up a couple of blocks up on my street. Some very cool shops and a Rockin Thai restaurant is just a block away on Sunset. And there's a huge comic book shop one block away! I'm very excited to be an LA urban dweller. Below is a satellite view of my new place and surrounding area. I'm the red dot at the bottom.
