Playing Tour Guide

Photo Hosted at Buzznet.com

Last weekend was a fun-filled weekend as my sister, Miriam, and her friend, Jennifer, came out from Texas to visit. I tried to be a good tour guide and show them around the L.A. area. We drove out to Santa Barbara and did a couple of wine tastings. I had never been out there before. It was so beautiful! The people that worked at the wineries were very friendly and informative. We also spent a day around Santa Monica hanging out at the pier, riding the ferris wheel, then going shopping at Third Street Promenade. Plus Jennifer found a great little 'wine bar' in Santa Monica named 'Air Conditioned' on Pico. It was very swank.

Also, in an unrelated matter, there seems to be an underground movement disputing the facts and validity of my blog. I'm not sure why my personal blog would cause such an uproar, but the person maintaining the 'Anti-Trev Blog' seems pretty adament. He's even speculated that I am a cyborg. Which I am not. I'm just you're average Homo sapien with superior intelligence. If you're interested, you can see the Anti-Trev Blog here. It's pretty weird stuff, but worth a chuckle.

V Day

I guess I should post something about Valentine's Day here, but I don't really care about Valentine's Day. Seems like a pointless, silly, commericalized holiday to me. If I was interested in anything about Valentine's Day, it would probably be the history of it and how it got started. Because I am interested in history. So, here you go:

There are varying opinions as to the origin of Valentine's Day. Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine.

Gradually, February 14 became the date for exchanging love messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. The date was marked by sending poems and simple gifts such as flowers. There was often a social gathering or a ball.

In the United States, Miss Esther Howland is given credit for sending the first valentine cards. Commercial valentines were introduced in the 1800's and now the date is very commercialised.

iPod prices dropped

If you don't have an iPod, now's your chance to get one. Apple dropped the prices for the iPod nano and the iPod shuffle today. The 1 GB Nano is $150 and the 1 GB Shuffle is $99, while the 512 MB Shuffle is $69. If you can spare the change for the Nano, I would recommend going that route. You get a color screen and navigation menu, plus a lot of other cool features.

Yoshinko

I have the sweetest little Japanese neighbor. I believe she is in her 60's. She's very nice and knocks on my door now and then to give me stuff. One time she gave me an onion plant I think. I didn't really know what to do with it. But I kept it on my table and watered it faithfully. When it died, she came back to pick up the yellow coffee mug she had given it to me in. Tonight she just knocked on the door; I can always tell her knock because it's so quiet. She told me that on channel 28 right now Antique Roadshow is on and that they were in Houston if I wanted to check it out. From an earlier conversation she knew that I was from Texas and figured I would especially enjoy the Houston edition of Antique Roadshow. I thanked her very much and she went on her way. I wonder what other shows I have missed because I haven't been at home to catch her visits.

Mysterious Note

Yesterday I walked out to my car and there was a note attached to the windshield. Now, I get random flyers all the time on my windshield, so I thought it was that at first. But upon a closer look, this did not seem random. This note was written on the back of a postcard advertisement for a movie. Can you help me solve this riddle? I have no idea what it means. I don't know anyone with the initials "h.d." Perhaps it is someone from the CIA trying to contact me and these are instructions for the next drop spot. Or maybe it is a test. Or maybe it's a note from myself from the future. Perhaps the movie is a supposed to be a clue as well. Something about death. Or maybe the note was written on the postcard because that was the only available item to write on at the time. Either way, I can't figure it out. Please help.

Apple being sued over iPod

A joker in Louisiana is suing Apple because he says that the iPod is dangerous and can cause hearing loss. Perhaps someone should tell him that the iPod comes equipped with a volume control.
